This year, 1Take Jay and Rucci have made quite the uproar. They’ve racked up streams and taken their music across the country, and now they’ve teamed up to present The Winning Team, emphasizing the duo’s ability to collaborate and soundtrack the party at will.
The duo does an exceptional job bringing their top energy on every track, making it a consistent project that’s easy to enjoy. The production on the tape weaves through a range of styles, especially on the “Intro” which seems to be an early fan favorite. It begins with a very smooth piano, before abruptly falling into a bass crushing transition where the duo goes bar for bar.
Immediately after “Intro” comes another hit in “Tax Season” featuring AzChike, who too is performing at Rolling Loud this December along with Rucci and 1TakeJay. Chike starts the track off with “it’s the middle of the year, but I’m balling like it’s tax season,” adding to the overall theme of fun and flexing that fills the entire project.
Other high-energy songs include “Chupa Mi Pito,” “Can’t Tell Me Shit,” “Weed Pills & Drank” and “Pass the Henny” ft. AzSwaye. Even though the overall tone of the project is very upbeat, they were able to switch it up on tracks such as “One More Time” and “Backk & Better.” The latter song is the final track on the project, reflecting on the progress in their journey and some of the triumphs they’ve been able to reach. 1Take Jay narrates some of his struggles while also encouraging listeners, rapping “If you broke keep your head up, that’s God tryna test us.” Rucci used this song as a tribute to late friend and rapper, SeanMackk, who was the other half of their original duo MackkRucci.
They bring a host of features with them as well, with contributions from AzChike, AzSwaye, KalanFrFr, 1TakeTeezy, and 1TakeQuan. It’s a similar story on the boards, with production from a host of names such as Romo, Mike Crook, Mikeyy2yz, Tio, Radioaktive, JabariOnnaTrack, & Zay Cornado.
Be on the lookout for what the artists on The Winning Team have to offer going forward… chances are they’ll be going for gold again all 2019.
